Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous (benign) formation of this gland that is very common in men over the age of 50. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can lead to complications such as acute or chronic urinary retention, hematuria, recurrent infections, stones and diverticula, and kidney failure in more advanced situations. The symptoms of BPH vary, with the most common being more frequent urination, especially at night; weak, hesitant or interrupted urinary flow; sense of urgency, sometimes with a small involuntary loss.

Properties of the active ingredients:

  • Saw Palmetto: Saw Palmetto is known for its diuretic, antiseptic, urinary, endocrinological and anabolic properties, traditionally used in chronic or subacute cystitis, testicular atrophy, hormonal disorders and especially in prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia). ).
  • Nettle: Nettle root components have potential in improving symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia. It has in its composition sterols and glycosides (including sitosterol), lignans, including (-)-secoisolariciresinol and a lectin, agglutinin. Studies have shown that nettle is a weak inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase, but has the ability to inhibit aromatase, which converts testosterone to estradiol.
  • Pumpkin Seed Oil: Evidence suggests that the oil offers protection against prostate cancer (reducing inflammation of the prostate tissues) and against problems related to urination caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, and may also prevent the formation of kidney stones. The mechanism of action is related to its strong antioxidant properties due to the presence of high levels of vitamin E and carotenoids, particularly zeaxanthin and lutein. These two isomers have antioxidant effects not only at the prostate level, but also at the ocular level.
  • Soy Lecithin: The protective properties of soy against prostate cancer have been attributed to the effects of isoflavones, especially genistein. Soybean constituents are thought to modulate several steroidogenic enzymes important for hormonal homeostasis, such as 5-alpha-reductase, aromatase, 17ß-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase, and cytochrome P450. Furthermore, genistein was shown to decrease the expression of androgen receptors, limiting the contribution of their deregulation in prostate carcinogenesis.
  • Vitamin E: Tocopherols are stored in adipose tissue, liver, muscles, adrenal glands, etc. They can, however, circulate in the blood bound to LDLs or HDLs. They represent the first defensive barrier against the oxidation of phospholipids in cell membranes, and can perform this action together with other antioxidants in the body.
