“ Supercritical CO2 ” extraction method
The technology used for extraction is based on the use of supercritical fluids , substances that are found under certain circumstances in a state with properties intermediate between liquid and gas ( which makes it behave like a hybrid between a liquid and a gas) . It has been shown that supercritical CO 2 , a completely harmless gas, becomes a powerful solvent at pressure and temperature conditions above its critical point.
Among its advantages we highlight the easy separation of substances, we can use mild temperatures that do not damage the product , in addition, we find in supercritical CO 2 a great selective capacity and it does not generate waste. Therefore, it is a cleaner and safer technique than conventional processes and allows us to preserve the active ingredients of the substances. At an industrial level, supercritical fluids are used in the agri - food, chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors.
As we have mentioned before, it is a technique that makes it easier to obtain products of natural origin, allows us to adapt products to new consumer habits and makes it possible for manufacturing processes to be non-polluting.
